India’s e-commerce to triple to $250 bn by 2030, driven by Gen Z

Apr 9, 2026

India’s digital commerce market is set for a massive transformation, projected to reach $250 billion by 2030, up from the current $90 billion, according to the Google-Deloitte report "The $250 Billion Commerce Frontier". This growth is anchored by 150 million new shoppers and a 220-million-strong Gen Z cohort, who are expected to command 45% of all online spending. A primary driver is the rapid maturation of quick commerce, forecast to become a $50 billion sector as it expands beyond groceries into electronics and fashion. The report highlights AI as a critical force, shifting the market toward generative commerce and boosting retail profitability by up to 35% through hyper-personalisation. Additionally, the creator economy is becoming central; content creators are expected to influence 30% of total retail spend by 2030, with one in ten purchases directly linked to creator storefronts, as per a report.
