J M Baxi and Navkar Corporation launch weekly rail corridor between ICD Morbi and Kandla Container Terminal

Mar 2, 2026

Trade connectivity in Gujarat received a boost with the launch of a new weekly rail service between ICD Morbi and Kandla Container Terminal, introduced by J M Baxi in collaboration with Navkar Corporation’s ICD Morbi. The new corridor is expected to significantly streamline cargo movement for exporters in the Morbi region.

The inaugural Hapag-Lloyd block train departed ICD Morbi at 00:45 hours on February 25, 2026, reaching Kandla Container Terminal at 06:10 hours the same morning. The sub-six-hour transit time highlights the efficiency and reliability that this service aims to bring to the trade.

With Kandla’s close proximity to Morbi and the Gulf market being a key destination for the region’s exports, the service is poised to create tangible advantages for exporters through faster turnaround and improved connectivity. Kandla Container Terminal already maintains strong links to Gulf and Red Sea ports through established services operated by multiple carriers.

The rail infrastructure at Kandla Container Terminal is designed to handle multiple trains per day, enabling substantial daily cargo movement to and from Morbi. This capacity supports smooth cargo flows with minimal delays, reduced congestion and reliable onward connections.

Mr Sanjay Khushwah, Managing Director, Hapag-Lloyd India Private Ltd, together with Mr Mahesh Adapa, Chief Operating Officer, Navkar Corp., and Capt. Alpesh Sharma, Chief Operating Officer, J M Baxi Ports and Logistics – Container Business, lauded the efforts of the teams involved in creating yet another effective, efficient and lower carbon footprint logistics solution.

The function was graced by Mr Ratna Shekar, Traffic Manager, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA). The management of all three organisations expressed their sincere appreciation to DPA for its steadfast support towards such progressive initiatives, said a communique.
