Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) recently inaugurated the first container rake of polypropylene from Thokur station in Mangaluru taluk, belonging to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL). On average, around two container rakes per month are expected to be offered by MRPL for transportation to the Morbi region of Rajasthan. The traffic will be handled by the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) using container rakes owned by CWC. For this purpose, CWC and MRPL have entered into a formal agreement to operationalise this transportation arrangement. To facilitate containerised and other freight traffic, KRCL, in association with the CWC, has developed the infrastructure at Thokur station. The facilities include a paved wharf with approach roads, covered warehouses, open stack yards, and other modern logistics amenities, making Thokur a well-equipped freight handling terminal, as per a report.
