India’s LPG imports are forecast to fall to approximately 1.19 million tonnes in March 2026, a decline of nearly 46% on a daily average basis compared to February. The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 90% of India’s LPG imports ordinarily travel, was effectively closed following the US-Israel military conflict with Iran. India ordinarily imports upward of 2 million tonnes of LPG per month, with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar accounting for the majority of the supply. India has begun loading LPG onto stranded vessels lying idle in the Persian Gulf to maximise each approved Hormuz transit. Cargoes from the United States and Argentina, which have doubled shipment volumes to India, are helping to partially offset the shortfall. India imports about 60% of its LPG consumption, according to a report.
