The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned Rs 447.58 crore (approximately Rs 448 crore) to upgrade electric traction systems across key high-traffic sections in Karnataka and Telangana. The massive grid overhaul focuses on transforming existing 1×25 kV traction infrastructures into modern, high-capacity 2×25 kV systems to drastically stabilise power supply, minimise line losses, and expand line capacity for faster, heavier trains. The project funding splits into two major zonal allocations. Upgrading 141 route km on the Mahbubnagar–Secunderabad–Medchal section. Sifting on a vital High-Density Network (HDN) corridor linking Dharmavaram to Ajmer, this boost will accelerate regional industrial freight and heavy bulk goods transport. Upgrading 120 track km along the Bengaluru–Tumakuru route. Situated on the Highly Utilised Network (HUN) Route-10 (Pune–Kanniyakumari), this power expansion will significantly decongest growing commuter traffic wrapping around the Bengaluru metropolitan region, according to a report.
